 Introductions
I have always thought that this would be a good forum to add to any site, it gives folks the chance to learn a little more about there fellow hobbiest and what they like.
So lets get started what do you keep, what are your favorite, how many tanks, types of filtration, do you breed, for profit, what do your friends and family think????? etc. etc....
Well, you get the picture...

 Re: Introductions
I have been in the fish hobby the last 20 years, African Ciclids in the last 5 and a half. I started my business to help out all the fish hobbyists on Long Island get the fish they could only get online but without the shipping. I started out wrong I had 12 tanks in an upstairs bedroom and not enough space as we all go through. I stopped for a while because I was unable to give everyone the quality and attention they needed. Right now Iam working on a fish room that will be fully equipped and ready to handle an abundance of fish and fish tanks. I will then be taking orders for shipping and be able to accomodate all my local customers get what they want. I am also looking for help and ideas for my fish room, Anyone who is handy in construction would be greatly appreciated. I will then have a grand reopening and all helpers will be given unbelievable discounts. Iam also here to help with any questions anyone have. And to the admins, I would love to help with your site in any way. I have dealt with both Bob T. and Crazycihlid. Let me know.

 Re: Introductions
Since I started this I believe it is time for me to contribute, maybe others will follow.
I had a 20 high as a child and not knowing anything about fish keeping I didn't have much success at it. Every time I saw a nice thereafter I said to myself, someday I to will have a tank like that.
Well that someday took twenty years to come about, five years ago my wife bought me a 29 high set up, tank stand and canopy. At first I was as successful as I had been before. Through many conversations with the LFS and reasearch on the internet things turned around. While on the internet I found these fish called cichlids, fascinated I was, that was the begining.
It seems to have evolved into something between a hobby and an obsession, 11 tanks at present and as many as 22 at times..
Favorites are by far my Fronts, 4 different groups to date followed by Tropheus which I presently have 2 colonies. the kids like the Mbuna with the youngest having a fondness for tangs. My newest thing is plecos and as far as I can see there will be others to come. I tried my hand at breeding this past summer and did ok but it became more like a chore so I quickly let that go by the wayside.
Until Later

Gerard, never hesitate to ask for a lending hand before I got into the "I.T." world I was a carpenter for a short period so I know a thing or to plus I have tools. You know my circumstance so I have plenty of free time on my hands. Hope to hear from you soon.
In response to the post:
I totally agree with you… would be nice to learn more about other hobbyists on the forum, what they like and what type of fish they enjoy keeping…
For starters, my family thinks I’m nuts with the tanks! However, even tho they think I am nuts they themselves are setting up fish tanks as well, which I think is pretty cool. I got into the hobby about 4 years ago, started out with a 37 gallon tank and shortly after got couple more tanks setup. Now I am finding a passion for Tanganyika Species, my favorite I would have to say is, any type of Cyprichromis. They are extremely delicate, fragile, peaceful and pretty fish.

 Re: Introductions
Hi all,
I also think this is a great thread! I started out with a 55 gal after my divorce in Maryland. I had a bangin bachelor pad and had the tank there with a roommate of mine. We had a mixed group of Malawi's. After I moved back to NY (originally from here), I put the tank in my relatives garage for a few years. I remarried about 5 years ago, and setup the tank 3 years ago after I lost my job. That got me back into being serious about my tank. Soon after that, another relative of mine heard that I had a tank and told me they had (2) 55's just sitting in the garage.
Well need not say any more. I now have (2) 55's and (3) 10 gal tanks.
I keep a mixed group of malawi and tanganyikans in the big tanks, and keep some small community fish in the small tanks. I raise fancy tail guppies, mickey mouse platties now. I have had many batches of Scienochromis "iceberg" ahli's- electric blues and Labidochromis caeruleus-yellow labs.
After I got laid off, I got a part time job in a LFS, and took care of about 300 freshwater tanks. I got the deals I needed to keep up my habbit and got more knowledge in the Fish business.
Now I am back to regular work, and have just as much interest as ever. I met Gibby back when I posted some of my Ahli's on a site. He had just lost his fish from the wonderful blackout we had. I offered some to him as I had a batch of about 75 that were in the 1/2" to 1" range. But before he could pick them up, he found some closer to him. He sent me an email to check out the site. So here I am. Glad to be here. I also got into taking photos of my fish, just to try and win some prizes over at another site. I will put them up soon along with the list of stuff. Good to meet you all, and hope to see your fish too.

 Re: Introductions
Welcome Finnyas
Happy to see you here and hope to hear more from you, your experiences can be very valuable to us all.
Please feel free to chime in on things.
Once this Christmas maddness is past I'll be in touch about the tanks, and maybe I'll need to make a road trip.
