The light fixture does have a timer built in, it's pretty sweet. It's made by OdySea. It wasn't expensive either, but do to the hassles I had I can't give a thumbs up to the supplier that I got mine from. I'm sure other sites sell this brand also at reasonable prices tho.

I'm hoping for lotsa algae growth but would love some plants in there... I just don't know anything about keeping plants in an aquarium.

I was pretty good at keeping plastic plants alive, but they don't look all that great to me. I've never tried real ones, mainly cuz I woudln't know where to start.

BTW, are you sure that's not pizza dough on the bottom and not quickcrete? How do you keep the quickcrete from hardening?

Thanks Al, it's Quickcrete brand playsand. It's been my experience that the Quickcrete brand is cleaner than other playsands so I always throw the brand name in there. It doesn't take me nearly as long to rinse their sand out as compared to other brands.
