 Resealing a Tank
I was wondering how much of a pain in the butt it is to reseal a tank. I found a 125 gallon tank for sale on craigslist with a leak. Which seems like a pretty good deal for 125$ not sure if it comes with anything besides the tank and stand. The only setback is its 2 hours away in mass. Heres a picture of the tank.

 Re: Resealing a Tank
Awesome tank and stand. There are many here who have resealed and I don't believe it is too difficult. Time is the issue I believe. Pretty far, 4 hours round trip.

 Re: Resealing a Tank
I have resealed a few tanks. It is not that hard to do. First you scrape off all of the old silicone with a razor blade. Then I use vinegar or alcohol and clean the tank of any residue. Then I use masking or painter's tape and out line the tank. Use GE silicone I make sure it has NO ANTI MILDEW properties. Apply the silicone and smooth it out with your finger. Wait five minutes the take the tape off of the tank. I usually wait 5 days before filling it up for water.
You should try to add up the total cost of the tank. Including round trip gas tolls or truck rental for the trip. You might find a set up in better shape locally for the same price.

ill add to mikes advice, when you think its clean scrape it again.the cleaner the glass, the better the seal. And get some cheap latex painters gloves to wear while siliconing.

 Re: Resealing a Tank
scrape with new blades , use GE1 silicone , make sure its 100% silicone !!! they make it with different colors , clear white and black.I would reseal it with black silicone (thats my 2cents) !! it would look cool !!! one more think usually after i scrape and wash tank , i use that medicine kind alcohol to clean where silicone will go(in my opinion silicone sticks better) , let it dry and apply silicone , dry time ,well everybody has their own fav time, i am letting it dry for 48-72 hours before test .
