Post Another food question?

I have been feeding my fish kens cichlid pellets, kens high intensity color crumbles, and wardleys tropical flake. I feed my Fryeri, a few mbuna, and my Fronts with this. I remember the food for color thread and got to thinking. I plan to use the same foods but I want to supplement it with NLS. Should I be using the cichlid formula 1.0mm pellets? Also for future refence is their a specific NLS for Tropheus or do they eat the same cichlid formula considering their ease of getting bloat.

On another note I notice jehmco sells spirulina flakes, are they a good investment as well?

It's a good idea to feed NLS Flakes to the Fry and 1mm pellets to the juvies and adults  I have some haps 6+'' and started feeding them the 3mm pellets

I'm not as nutty about brands as some, but would definitely recommend that you lose the Wardleys brand food. Just compare the ingredient list to NLS or one of the high end flakes like Omega One or Ocean Nutrition...

Tropheus eat the NLS Cichlid Pellets. So the answer is yes.
I would also tell you to ditch the Wardleys.
Jehmco flakes are all good. He also carries Dainichi, which Anthony (Zebra7) has been swearing by. I also like Omega One as well as Kens crumbles and NLS Grow.

Well when I look through kens NLS list I didn't see any flakes. So there is NLS cichlid flakes that i can find elsewheres, if so does anyone know where it would be cheaper? All i find on kens site are the SPECTRUM FRESHWATER H2O FLAKES WITH GARLIC, I take it these are not what I need.

And yes I have seen z7 reccomend Dainichi, I think thats what I am going to try for spirulina pellets or flakes.

Also I feel so lucky to be a part of this online community, I get some of the best advice I ever recieved from here, and some of the best tips on how to make this hobby affordable.

Thanks for the help

IMO, the NLS flakes are more for smaller tropical fish communities, not Africans.
Jehmco sells NLS flakes, but only the large container ($49.95).

NLS pellets are a good daily diet. If it is flakes that you want to feed on a daily basis then I would choose HBH Veggie Flakes (Jehmco has them cheap) and maybe a little Omega One Veggie Flake.
Ken's crumbles and NLS Grow are a great food for your juveniles, as are frozen Cyclopeze and finely ground flakes.

From what i see, the fry like the flakes the most, so for fry up to 1'' I would recommend NLS or other quality veggie/spirulina flakes. For juvies from 1'' to 1-1/2'' NLS grow formula .5mm pellets until they are big enough to accept the 1mm cichlid formula pellets. If you feel that your fish are too large (6+'') for the 1mm pellets, could give them the 3mm pellets  I would recommend NLS as the main diet, that could be supplemented with other types of food, though it's not necessary

I just place a little of whatever I have on hand (HBH Graze, Pure Spirulina etc..) in a coffee bean grinder. Works well for me.

Ounce for ounce pellets are your best bet, no matter the size of your fish. They're more nutrient dense, more stable in water, and over the long haul much less costly than feeding flakes. (including NLS flakes)

RD, thanks.

Even the NLS H2O Stable wafers are a good choice for an occasion meal for Mbuna. They are much darker than any of the other wafers (RD, why?), although I do like Hikari's wafers, too.
