Well they were close

Always cool when a trip to the zoo turns up some cool fish.

Actually - I do expect them to be healthy in a Zoo. It's not a Pet Shop. If those fish were not healthy - the Zoo needs to close down and have all of those exotic creatures rescued. These are supposed to be professionals and degreed persons.

You only need 2 year degree . I volunteered at the bird dept. The zoo has its own hospital. Belive me they have a lot of sick animals at the zoo . Most are not pulled from a exhibit unless they are too sick or too hard to catch to medicate.

Never underestimate the destructive power of a bureaucrat. There is a dentist near where I live that is an expert in turtles. He collected bog turtles long before they were declared endangered. The dirty secret is that they are NOT endangered, just really shy so the students they send to take a census don't find any because they splash around and make a ruckus.

He had a breeding colony that he's had since the 1970's. The Government Boys found out about it, confiscated the turtles (even though he pre-dated the protected status) and gave the turtles to the Bronx Zoo. They preceded to kill off the bog turtles because they were idiots. They ended up "volunteering" the dentist to show them how to keep them alive in captivity.

There is a large population of these turtle right next to Rt 9 south of Poughkeepsie. Think these bozo care?

I can't believe they're in with Nasuta. How big is the tank? The Nasuta look like the finage is pretty and not nipped at.

It's a display not a tank, I should have taken a pulled back shot to show it. It's made to look like a river running thru the display and when it meets the glass at the front you can see below the water line. Has to be a thousand gallons I would think.

I too am suprised that the Nasuta's are in there. Their finnage looks suprisingly mint. The female Nasuta on the top of the pic looks like she may have even held at some point, she has a very flat/concave belly
